Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English Literature. Mitchell started her career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), situated in Washington DC. In Washington she was named general correspondent for NBC News a year later. In 1981 she started covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter at NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was on the panel at the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered at the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of interesting stories including the Iran-contra case and tax reform. She was with Ronald Reagan during numerous trips to summits around the world and covered frequently.
